Benson: Barbara Ann Parker Lambert, age 70, died very peacefully at 3:30PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Duke University Hospital in Durham. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Monday, June 29, 2015, at Holly Grove Advent Christian Church, 2050 Holly Grove Church Road, Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Michael Bassett. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery
Mrs. Lambert was born August 13, 1944 to the late Leon Chester and Mandy Beasley Parker. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ova Lee Parker.
Barbara fought a long and arduous battle with cancer that began in April, 2013, when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She never smoked. Barbara endured many radiation and chemotherapy treatments, only to have it reoccur in 2015 in her brain, spinal column, and other parts of her body. She never gave up on the hope that she could win the battle, but it was not to be.
Barbara attended schools in Meadow and Benson, graduating from Benson High School in 1962 and attended Campbell University the following year. She married Jerry Jefferson Lambert on August 27, 1966. They lived a good life together for almost 49 years, during which they traveled extensively over the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia. They were avid campers, having camped in most of the states. As a couple, they made a commitment when they were first married to travel every year. This year, because of sickness, is the first year in 49 years that has not happened.
Barbara and Jerry enjoyed many hours at their beach home in Emerald Isle, NC, where she doted on her children and six grandchildren. One of her favorite activities at the beach was cooking scrambled eggs with sausage and mayonnaise biscuits. They could clean out a basket of those biscuits in short order. She could also cook a mean fish!
Barbara was not only a homemaker, but she also helped to operate three family businesses, Jerry Lambert Photography, Inc., Jerry Lambert Properties, Inc., and Lambert Auto Sales, during which time her husband also enjoyed a multi-decade career at Chicopee, a Johnson & Johnson company, later to become known as PGI.
Barbara was a God loving member of Holly Grove Advent Christian Church for her entire life, where she was a member of the Rose Marie Circle, and Sunday School classes. She really enjoyed working during the spring and fall fundraising dinners. Chicken pastry was her specialty. She was a great cook.
Surviving are husband of almost 49 years, Jerry J. Lambert; daughter, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Ingle and husband, Michael, and their children, Morgan Elizabeth, Madison Grace, and Mason Carr, all of Garner; and son, Alan Sloan Lambert and wife, Zoila, and their children, Hailey Ann, Andrew Sloan, and Maya Alicia, all of Graham. She is survived by brothers, Wallace C. Parker & wife, Kathleen, of Fuquay Varina, and Dr. Anthony Parker & wife, Kathy, of Smithfield; sister-in-law, Doras Lee Thornton Parker of Four Oaks; and brother-in-law, William Royce (W. R.) Lambert of Benson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, 301 W. Main Street, Benson.
Flowers are welcomed, however; memorials may be made to the Holly Grove Advent Christian Church, 2050 Holly Grove Church Road, Benson, NC 27504.
