Princeton, NC: Miss Betty Lou Mayes, age 81, of Progressive Care Home, Princeton, formerly of Four Oaks, died at the SECU Hospice House on Monday, December 9, 2019. Funeral services will be at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM. The service will conclude with her burial at Hills of Neuse Cemetery in Smithfield. Officiating will be Rev. Don Dewberry.
Miss Mayes was born on January 4, 1938 to the late John and Lela Land Mayes, and grew up on the farm with her four sisters and three brothers. Including her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers-in-law; Kenneth Thornton and Loyall Corey. Upon the death of her parents, she went to live, for 32 years, at Progressive Care Home of Princeton. There she was well cared for. She was also a member of Progressive Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her loving siblings, Rebecca M. Thornton of Four Oaks, Barbara M. Corey of Robersonville, Shirley M. Weaver of Raleigh, Don Mayes and wife, Joan of Princeton, Tom Mayes and wife, Ida of Clayton, Glenn Mayes and wife, Peggy of Benson and Margaret M. Cashwell and husband, J.C. of Autryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks.
Many thanks to Progressive Care for the good care they gave Betty over the course of 32 years and to her roommate, Teresa Brady, who was a good friend and helpmate. Also, thanks to Sardis Baptist Church for all they do with the residents of Progressive Care.
