Carol Anderson of Smithfield, age 71 passed peacefully the morning of December 31st surrounded by family.
Born in Virgina to the late Benton David Sigmon and Anne Oxendine Sigmon Godwin on October 20th, 1949, Carol was a proud Navy brat, living in various locations on the East Coast. She is proceeded in death by her brother, Benton David "Pete" Sigmon of Ohio, William "Billy" Godwin, Jr., Don Godwin, and former husband, Charles Edward Anderson of Smithfield.
Carol spent many of her favorite years employed by Johnston County Schools as an assistant and substitute teacher. She made life long friends and extended family with many fellow educators and families. She kept presents, photographs and drawings from children through the decades with solid memories of how special each person was in their own way and often told stories with laughter and fondness.
She was above all, proud of her love for God and love for her country. Her favorite colors were red, white and blue. She stood for the pledge when no one saw her. She loved God purely without forcing her faith on anyone. In the end, she asked only for forgiveness. Carol loved to dance, visit the beaches of Hattaras and spend time with her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Anderson Picarella of Pine Level, grandchildren Olivia, Raegan and Jackson. A special former son-in-law, Daniel Picarella of Clayton, (Jenny) and granddaughter, Charlie. A son, Charles Anderson of Raleigh, (Vanessa) and grandchildren, Eliott, Alliandre, and Matthew.
Carol is also survived by her loving siblings, Jewelle Norris of Benson, Debbie Jackson of Kenly (Joey), Debbie Tart Williams (Earl) of Dunn, Ed Godwin of Clayton (Edith), Ron Godwin of Kenly (LouAnn), and Bonnie Lockridge (Glenn) of Smithfield.
