Benson: Mr. Charles Edward Denning, age 92, 1072 Denning Road, past president and owner of Dixie Denning LP Gas in Benson and Angier, died Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Coats. Rev. Jason Hammersly will officiate. Entombment will follow in Denning Family Cemetery in Benson.
Mr. Denning was born in Johnston County on September 13, 1924 to the late Lonnie Pearson and Hattie Wood Denning. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Tart, and brothers, L. M. Denning, and Jerry W. Denning. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of American Legion Banner Post 109. Mr. Denning was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and was a past director for the Johnston County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Surviving are wife of 70 years, Dorothy Watson Denning; daughters, Janet D. Wilson and Anita D. Tart and husband, Ken, all of Benson; son, Michael "Mike" Edward Denning and wife, Barbara, of Benson; sister, Rosalie D. Stephenson of Benson; grandchildren, Alicia W. Gilsenan, Russell Wilson, Yorke D. Johnson, Lindsay T. Royal, Mary Michael D. Britt, Kendall T. Dunn; and Luke Tart; and 13 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Tuesday.
