Christopher Paul Niewoehner

Smithfield: Mr. Christopher Paul Niewoehner, age 53, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Friday, January 28, 2022 at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel 5820 US HWY 301 S. Four Oaks, NC 27524. Pastor Bill Beyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield, NC.

Mr. Niewoehner was born on May 24, 1968 in New Hampton, Iowa. He was a soil scientist with the NC State Soil Science Department. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Henry " Pete" Sowell. Mr. Niewoehner was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Clayton, NC and was loved by his family. Chris was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Richfield Iowa. He was confirmed at St. Joe Lutheran Church in St Joseph, Missouri. He received a Bachelor degree of Science from NCSU. Chris and Amy were married September 10, 1994.

Surviving include his wife of 28 years, Amy Sowell Niewoehner; daughters, Emily Niewoehner and Laura Niewoehner; parents, Paul and Doris Niewoehner; brother, Daniel Niewoehner and wife, Patti; sister, Sandra Baughman and husband, Mark; mother-in-law, Ann B. Sowell; sister-in-law, Jenne Walker; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends prior to the service 1:30PM-2:45PM-Friday, January 28, 2022 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC.

In Accordance with NC-COVID -19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W's: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Masks are required for all services.
