David Eugene Lee

Meadow, NC: Mr. David Eugene Lee, age 89 of Meadowbrook Road passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 at his home. Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Dr. Robert Cooke. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.

Mr. Lee was born on January 28, 1936 in Johnston County, NC to the late Coy Eugene and Pearl Tart Lee. He started farming in 1955 following his graduation from Meadow High School and a tour of military service. Mr. Lee’s life-time farming operation included tobacco, sweet potatoes, soybeans, corn, cotton, and swine. He was awarded the Outstanding Young Farmer Award by the Smithfield Jaycee’s in 1966 due to his practices for obtaining the best results in livestock feeding, breeding, grazing, and care; in tillage and rotation practices, weed control, and seed selections; in water management; and forestry production.

Mr. Lee was a pillar in the Meadow Community. In 1968, Mr. Lee was acknowledged as an Outstanding Young Man of America. He was awarded the Eagle Scout Troop 18 and served as Scout Master Troop 62, member of the Ruritan Club serving in leadership positions, a Charter Member of the Meadow Volunteer Fire Department, and was a devoted Christian helping in his local church in many different capacities including serving as a Deacon, member of the Building and Grounds Committee and a Trustee. Mr. Lee was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, family, and to anyone in need. He raised a bountiful garden and shared the abundant produce with everyone.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean Dale Freeman Lee; daughter, Susan Lee of Raleigh and son, David “Davy” Eugene Lee, Jr., of Meadow; grand dog, Niklas; sister-in-law, Cathy F. Jackson of Benson; several nieces and nephews; and his special Tart and Lee cousins.

The family will receive family and friends from 1:00PM to 1:45PM on Monday, March 3, 2025 prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to Benson Area Medical Center, 3333 NC 242 North Benson, NC 27504.
