Donald Ray Barbour

Benson, NC: Mr. Donald Ray Barbour, age 83, of Old Barbour Road passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church in Benson. Rev. Wesley Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Mr. Barbour was born on July 11, 1941 in Durham County, NC to the late Major Sanford and Charlotte Inez Sherrill Barbour. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Lynn Barbour. Mr. Barbour served his country in the Army National Guard. Mr. Barbour retired from Barbour Custom Woodwork and spent the remainder of his life working at Jones Paint and Hardware; selling seed, mixing paint, and holding court with all his customers and friends. He enjoyed working in his “way too big” vegetable garden to ensure there was always enough to go around to his family and friends. Mr. Barbour enjoyed NASCAR and never met a stranger. 

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kathy D. Barbour; children, Kelly Barbour and wife, Leslie of Benson, Bryan Barbour and wife, Beth of Smithfield, Cheryl Barbour of Benson; grandchildren, Jack Barbour, Alyssa Barbour, Anna Barbour, Kate Barbour; sister, Cille Cook of Marietta, Georgia; many nieces and nephews; beloved pet, Maggie. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM-2:45PM, Friday, August 9, 2024 prior to the service at St. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
