Mrs. Ennis was born in Harnett County, NC on April 21st, 1929 to the late Johnnie Albert and Beulah Mae Brown Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband Leray T. Ennis, sister Maude Miller Byrd, and brother Clemon Theron Miller.
Mrs. Ennis graduated from Coats School before going to work at Erwin Mills in 1950. In 1951, she married her one and only love Leray Ennis. She spent a number of enjoyable years serving customers at the Belk Dept Store in Dunn. She always felt it an honor to have been a teacher’s aide for the Harnett County schools and retired from the school system with 15 years of service. During her retirement, she stayed active by volunteering with the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital as well as by driving the van to pick up her husband when he made deliveries for the Western Star Trucking Company of Dunn, NC.
Mrs. Ennis was a member of Hodges Chapel PWFB church. She always recalled with pleasure the opportunity to have taught Sunday School for 23 years. She also served as the President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary for 20 years. With her husband Leray, she was always ready to sing when called upon and was part of the church trio for 30 years.
Mrs. Ennis enjoyed working in her yard. She often said her flowers, fish and birds were her therapy. The annual nativity scene on her porch and in her yard will be sorely missed.
