Dorothy Parker

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Dorothy S. Parker, age 84, of 128 Allen Street died Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital in Fayetteville.  Funeral Services will be held Wednesday September 11, 2013 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Revs. John Norman and Ed Renfrow. Burial will follow at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.     Mrs. Parker was born February 10, 1929 in Johnston County to the late Ruth and Howard Stephenson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Harding Parker, and sister, Pat Bundy.  Mrs. Parker worked for the Jerald Corporation in Smithfield, North Carolina Department of Human Resources Child Support Division, and also helped her son, Linwood, at White Swan BBQ. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Four Oaks and served as a deaconess.     Surviving are Sons and Daughters-In-Law, Mayor Linwood and Patsy Parker of Four Oaks and David and Tricia Parker of Raleigh, NC; Four Grandchildren, Lisa Parker, Four Oaks, Elizabeth Raynor and husband, Daniel, of Four Oaks, Hunter Parker of Portland, Oregon, and Lawson Sivertson and husband, Erik, of Washington, D.C.; Three Great-Grandchildren, Jordan Vanier, Riley and Rachel Raynor, all of Four Oaks; Sisters, Janice Southerland and husband, Sherwood, of Smithfield, Becky Renfrow and husband, Ed, of Davis, NC, and Callie Jones of Smithfield; Brother, Dewey Stephenson and wife, Barbara, of Four Oaks; Sisters-In-Law, Hazel Creech of Savannah, GA, Doris Jackson of Four Oaks, and Ann Parker of Raleigh; and many Nieces and Nephews.     Mrs. Parker's greatest joy was service to others. She was most happy preparing meals for family and friends. She used her artistic talents in service to her church and community. Mrs. Parker wrote the centennial play, "From These Oaks," for the Town of Four Oaks. She was recognized by Four Oaks Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year and Woman of the Year by the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks.     The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home of Mayor Linwood and Patsy Parker, 713 Stanley Street, Four Oaks, NC 27524.     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks, P.O. Box 717, Four Oaks, NC 27524 or to the Four Oaks Fire Department and Rescue, P.O. Box 691, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
