Dorothy Mae Rhine West, 87, went to join her Lord on Friday, July 17, 2015 after a prolonged battle from complications with lung cancer. Dot was born on December 29, 1927 in Aransas Pass, Texas, to parents who farmed. She and her siblings picked cotton and milked cows but Dot enjoyed riding horses. Dot attended Sinton High School where she and her twin sister won an area math contest. She left Sinton and went to work in San Antonio as a clerk in a drug store. There, she met her husband of 69 years, Arthur Nobel West.
From San Antonio, she traveled to Arizona, Florida, and Georgia with her husband in the Air Force. They settled in Four Oaks and were faithful members of the Corinth United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school classes, sang hymns, and was loved and recognized for her service and contribution to the church.
Dot had a love for the arts. She demonstrated her love for her family by sewing clothes, curtains and just about anything. She was a very good artist and enjoyed drawing horses in pencil. Some of her best loves were gardening, games, and sports. She had a green thumb and her yard was full of azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons, flowers, birds, and squirrels. Dot loved games and she played dominoes as a child. The rest of her life she was an avid card player and never turned down an opportunity to play cards with her family and friends. She enjoyed the fellowship as much as the cards. She loved salt water fishing with her husband, father, sister, and nephew. She was also an excellent rifle marksman and cross-word solver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Nobel West, parents, Isaac and Ester Rhine, sisters, Marie Moore and Marjorie Raines, and brother, Isaac Rhine, Jr.
Mrs. West is survived by her children, Dr. Don West and wife, June Canaday West, Denise West-Smith and husband, John Smith, and Dan West; her grandchildren, Rich West and wife, Felicity Kolp, Jennifer West Wilkerson and husband, Chris Wilkerson, Jessica Smith, and Ian Smith; her great grandchildren, Sienna West, Emma Rose Wilkerson, Logan West, and James Wilkerson. She is also survived by her twin sister, Nina DuBose.
The funeral will be held at Corinth United Methodist Church on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 5pm to 7pm.
