Fuquay Varina, NC: Dr. Mary Rogers Rose, age 68, died at her home on Monday, August 3, 2015. A celebration of life will be held 10:00AM Thursday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Coats. Dr. Gene Tyson and Rev. Valerie Tyson will officiate. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Mamers.
A native of Harnett County born July 10, 1947, Mary was the daughter of the late Daniel Osee and Evelyn Porter Rogers of Mamers. She received her BS degree from Campbell University, her M.Ed. from Duke University, and her D. Ed. from N. C. State University. A lifelong educator, Dr. Rose served as a K-5 teacher, an ESL teacher at Wake Technical College, assistant professor at Campbell University, Director of Curriculum and Instruction with the Carteret County Schools, English Language Arts/Social Studies Consultant with the NC Department of Public Instruction, and Director of Grades 3-5 Education with the Harnett County Schools. Mary was a member of Fuquay Varina United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Larry P. Rose; brother, Rev. Walter E. Rogers and wife, Helen, of Lillington; sister, Janice R. Burtner and husband, Harry, of Mamers; several nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as numerous other devoted family.
The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday.
