Abingdon, VA: Mr. Durwood Lenzie "D.L." Blackmon, age 69, formerly of Benson, passed away on Thursday at his home. A memorial service will be 4:00PM Sunday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Lee.
Mr. Blackmon was born the fourth child of the late Luby Marshall Blackmon, Sr., and Sallie Johnson Blackmon on March 24, 1945 in Harnett County. D. L. served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was President of Huff-Cook Mutual Burial Association and worked as an insurance executive for 46 years. Mr. Blackmon was a member of Highlands Fellowship Church, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watersports.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Lee Blackmon; son, Durwood Lenzie "Beau" Blackmon II and fiancée, Janet Moffitt of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Kelley Blackmon Walker and husband, Scott, of Cary; brothers, Luby Marshall Blackmon, Jr. and wife, Willow Dean, of Benson and Robert Elwood Blackmon and wife, Ruby of Welcome; sister, Mattie Beasley of Benson; 3 grandchildren, Lenzie, Ashby, and Daniel Blackmon; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
