Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Edison Earl Temple, CSM US Army Retired, age 86 of 442 Parker Road died Friday at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Four Oaks. Rev. John Norman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Four Oaks City Cemetery, Four Oaks with Full Military Honors.
He was born in Johnston County, NC to the late Ward and Pearl Temple on February 17, 1932. Mr. Temple was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Lou Allen, and brothers, Carl Lee Temple, Sr., Jerry H. Temple. He was known for his love of family and friends and his dedication to First Baptist Church in Four Oaks. Mr. Temple served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Trustee.
He served in the US Army for 23 years and was stationed in Japan, Korea, Germany and Vietnam and he taught ROTC at the University of New Hampshire for six years. After retirement, he was very active in the Four Oaks American Legion.
After his military retirement, he worked as the City Manager for Benson, Kenly, and Wilsons Mills, NC and worked as the Town Clerk in Four Oaks, NC.
Mr. Temple was on the Board of Directors for the Benson Area Medical Center for 32 years and 28 of these years, he served as Chairman.
He joined the Civitan Club in 1973 and served as Governor of NC District East in 1998-1999.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Jeanette Dunn Temple; a sister, Carolyn Faye Lee of Meadow; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Monday at the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks Fellowship Hall and other times at the home.
