Edsel Wayne Johnson

Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Edsel Wayne Johnson, age 90, of Stone’s Creek Road passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield.  Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson.  Burial will follow in Blackmon’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Four Oaks, NC. Rev. Billy Nowell will officiate.

Mr. Johnson was born on August 12, 1933 in Johnston County, NC to the late Thomas Cornelius and Thelma Stanley Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Ray Johnson; and a sister, Carol Johnson Lee. After graduation he served in the Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He also served as an engineer in the Blackmon’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Johnson was employed as a supervisor in the control assembly department at Fieldcrest Mills in Smithfield until its closure. 

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Willodean Lee Johnson; daughter, Debbie Matthews and husband, Harry of Coats; grandson, Chris Matthews and partner, Alexandria; granddaughter, Allison Henry and husband, Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Holden and Harper Henry; sister, Shelby Harris and husband, Ed; brother, Johnnie Johnson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 10:45AM Monday, December 4, 2023 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the Blackmon’s Crossroads Fire Department, 5813 Hwy 96 Four Oaks, NC 27524.
