Emma Josephine Wood

Benson, NC: Mrs. Emma Josephine Wood, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at UNC Johnston Health Hospital in Smithfield surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM-Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC. Rev. Joe Brown will officiate.

Mrs. Wood was born August 12, 1935 in Johnston County to the late Fulton and Elsie L. Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Donald Wood; son, Terry Keith Wood. Mrs. Wood worked at McCrory’s Stores in Dunn and Pope’s Stores in Coats until she retired. She was married to Ray Donald Wood, her high school sweetheart. Along with public working, she was a devoted housewife, loving mother and helped on the farm. She was a member of Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church in Benson.

Surviving include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie R. Wood, Danny W. Wood and wife, Dianne T., and Ray Donald Wood, Jr. and wife, Linda F.; grandsons, Travis Wood, Tracy Wood, Tony Wood, Dennis Wood; granddaughters, Tammy Byrd, Tina Smith, Emma Wood; twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Beasley; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wood will be available for viewing, and you will be able to sign the register book on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 12:00PM-5:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson. The family will not be present during this time.
