Gene Carlton Stephenson

Mr. Gene Carlton Stephenson, age 82, of Angier, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at his home. Gene was born on March 19, 1943, in Johnston County, where he was a lifelong resident.

Gene was a member of Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church, where he was actively involved in various roles of leadership and service. He was one of the founding members of the Hickory Grove Quartet. For more than 30 years, he was part of the quartet’s ministry of sharing the gospel message through song.

Following his graduation from Cleveland High School in 1961, Gene worked in a variety of careers spanning more than 60 years, culminating with his retirement as President of Stay Clean, Incorporated, a company he founded in 1996. In his retirement years, Gene enjoyed traveling, golf, and spending time with his family.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton Walter Stephenson and Loa West Stephenson. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 59 years, son Sandy and wife Anna, son Travis and wife Amy, grandchildren Noah, Ellie, Colin, Sam, and Lily, and sister, Gail Byrd.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church, 1232 Hickory Grove Church Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524. There will be a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church Deacon Fund or The Be Loud!
