Four Oaks, NC: Mr. George Rufus Massengill, age 68, of 4960 NC 96 South passed away with his family by his side Thursday at his residence. Funeral Service will be 3:00PM Sunday at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, 3168 NC Hwy 96 S, Four Oaks, NC. Officiating will be Revs. Billy Nowell and Emmitt Jones. Private Entombment will be held at a later date.
George was born August 11, 1949 in Johnston County to the late Jesse Elmon and Florean Parrish Massengill. He was also preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Edith Moore and Wanda Lou Boyette. He owned and operated Hill Top Farm Service Center in the Blackmon's Crossroads community. George served on many agricultural boards as well as community and civic organizations. He was also a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church where he served in many capacities.
Survivors include wife of 46 years, Diane Adams Massengill; daughter and son-in-law, Deanna M. and Mark Lassiter of Four Oaks; son and daughter-in-law, George, Jr. and Wendy Massengill of Four Oaks; grandchildren, John Thomas Parker, Annah Kate Lassiter, Jenna Elizabeth Massengill, Alexis Karoline Lassiter, Avery Kathryn Lassiter and Kleo Lou Massengill; sisters, Carolyn Carroll of Garner and Linda Barbour and husband, Roger of Benson; brothers-in-law, Thomas Moore of Dunn, Harold Adams and Johnny Adams both of Four Oaks; sisters-in-law, Edna A. Phipps of Four Oaks, Brenda Adams of Newton Grove and Carolyn Williams and husband, James of Four Oaks; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home.
