Grace Virginia Johnson Byrd

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Grace Virginia “Amazing Grace” Johnson Byrd, age 93, of Maple Avenue, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Four Oaks United Methodist Church in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Rev. Joey Yow. Burial will follow in the Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.

Mrs. Byrd was born June 17, 1928 in Johnston County to the late Wyatt Ransom and Bessie Florence McLamb Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Randall Byrd; a son, Roy “Randy” Byrd, Jr., son-in-law, Cecil Etheridge; sisters and brothers, Charles Johnson, Sarah Johnson, James Johnson, Mary Lou Byrd, Sherrill Johnson, Annie Ruth Blackmon, Billy Ray Johnson, Eugene Johnson and Roy Preston Johnson. Mrs. Byrd was a farmer, worked for Gerald Corporation, Barefoot Ham’s and Walmart. She was a member of Four Oaks United Methodist Church where she taught Kindergarten Sunday School for over 35 years. Mrs. Byrd had a “green thumb” for gardening, flowers, and enjoyed crafts, reading and children of all ages.

Surviving include her daughters, Gale B. Etheridge of Apex, Jean B. Wall and husband, Billy of Wilmington; daughter-in-law, Janice Byrd of Erwin; grandchildren, Adam Byrd and wife, Leigh of Coats, Amy Hurlocker and husband, Zach of Concord, great-grandchildren, Brantley, Lilyanne Grace, Deacon, Shelby Grace and Sadie Hope; grand- God-daughter, Melinda Mathis and husband, Judson and daughters, Diana and Hannah Grace of Valdosta, GA; sister, Marie West of Benson; sisters-in-law, Lou Ann Johnson, Judy Johnson, and Mary Johnson all of Four Oaks; brother-in-law, Hilton Byrd and wife, Betty of Four Oaks; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM- 8:00PM Friday, July 9, 2021 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home.
