Grace Childers Wall

August 6, 1927 — November 10, 2017

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Grace Childers Wall age 90 of Four Oaks, died Friday at Liberty Commons.  Private services were held.On the bright and cloudless morning of November 10, 2017, heaven opened up and Jesus welcomed Grace into her eternal home.  She left this world peacefully, her beloved niece Lori holding her hand.Grace was born in Johnston County to A.D. and Lessie Mitchell Childers on August 6, 1927.  She was the youngest of six siblings, four brothers and one sister.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers (Paul, Frank, Ralph, & Homer), and also by the one great love of her life, husband James Blackmon.  She is survived by her only sister, Lessie Mae Vinson, her great-nieces Lori Alford Norris and June Alford Blue, her nephews Miles Childers and Curtis Childers, and many other nieces and nephews.Grace was retired from the First Baptist Church in Smithfield where she worked for 41 years as a Church Secretary serving under three Pastors, Reverends Larry Mayo, John Ryberg and Lee Colbert. She was also a very active member for many years serving in numerous positions and participating in many ministry opportunities.  Grace read and studied her Bible daily.  She loved The Lord, her Church and Church family. To those who knew and loved her she was known fondly as “Amazing Grace.”  She was always the life of a get-together, telling jokes and making people laugh. Grace was an amazing quilter and during her lifetime, along with her sister Lessie Mae, made many beautiful quilts that were shared with her Church, friends and family.  She also loved to garden, working much in her yard with her many varieties of flowers. She enjoyed travelling with her friends.Grace enjoyed her family and the special holiday get-togethers with them at her sister Lessie Mae’s home. For many years at Christmastime, she always wore a Christmas bell on a red cord as a necklace. Grace will be remembered for many great attributes:  her faith and love for Jesus, her love for family and friends, kindness, wisdom, the rare ability to take dime-store jewelry and pair it such that it looked like Harry Winston.  Her humor – clever and witty- will never be forgotten.  The many funny stories and jokes that Grace shared with her family are priceless jewels that will be treasured forever.  Although she suffered several years with a debilitating illness, on occasion she would glean a mischievous look in her eyes, slyly smile and make a humorous remark about something.  Grace lived her life well and pleasing to God, laughed often, loved with all of her heart.Grace’s family would like to extend their gratefulness to the staff at Liberty Commons and Liberty Commons Hospice for their caring and compassionate care of Grace, and also for their kindness towards her family.Service Information
