Coats, NC: Mrs. Helen Ruth Barnes Langdon, age 103, slipped into the arms of Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Betsy Johnson Hospital with her family by her side. Funeral Services will be held-2:00 PM Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats. Officiating will be Rev. Jimmy Newkirk. Burial will follow in Coats City Cemetery. 

Mrs. Langdon was born on September 11, 1920 in Wilson County to the Hon. Troy Thomas Barnes, Sr. and to Berta Leona Hinton Barnes. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sherwood Langdon; son-in-law, George Alexander Kaneklides; and siblings, Marie Barnes Harrell, Frances Barnes Allen, Troy Thomas Barnes, Jr., and Harold William Barnes. Mrs. Langdon was born in Lucama, NC and was raised in Wilson, NC. Following High School she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Barton College (formerly Atlantic Christian College) and went on to do her graduate work at UNC Chapel Hill and Hardbargers Business College. She was a teacher by trade and taught at Wilson City Schools, Wake County Public Schools, Meadow School, and Central Carolina Community College where she worked in the ABEGED program. She also worked for Atlantic Coast Railroad Line in Wilson, NC during World War II as an administrative manager. After retirement she enjoyed being a farming homemaker and the simple things of life such as her family garden, her flowers, reading, canning and pickling vegetables, and loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She was also an excellent cook for both her family and the community as she went on to see many of her recipes published. She had been a member of Hood Memorial Christian Church of Dunn. Most recently she was honored as the “Oldest Living Alumnus” of Barton College in 2022. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. 

Surviving includes her daughter, Ann Langdon Kaneklides; son, John Sherwood Langdon and wife, Sandi; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Kaneklides, Alexander Langdon Kaneklides, and Caroline Nicole Langdon. 

Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats, NC.
