Dunn, NC: Mr. Henry Arthur "H. A." Turlington, Jr., age 91, died Friday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Monday at Coats Baptist Church. Officiating will be Revs. Rodney Baker and Jesse Mooney. Burial will follow at Coats City Cemetery.
Mr. Turlington was born February 11, 1924 in Harnett County to the late Henry A., Sr., and Laylon Parrish Turlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Tripp Turlington, a son-in-law, Tommy Denning; sister, Mabel T. Hayes; and a brother, Wade Turlington. Mr. Turlington retired from the US Postal Service in 1986. He was a farmer and a breeder of registered Durocs. Mr. Turlington served as Vice President and board member of the Harnett County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Coats Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and many other committees. Mr. Turlington was a member of the Coats Lion’s Club where he was received the Melvin Jones Fellowship award for the betterment of his community. He was a World War II veteran where he served in the Pacific theater with the 20th Infantry, 6th Division as a combat medic and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for gallantry in combat. Mr. Turlington was a member the American Legion Post 59, Dunn where he served as a past Commander.
Surviving are children and spouses, Laura Denning of Locust, NC, Linda Stewart and husband, Jeff of Durham, Doris Tulloch and husband, John of Wilmington, Dr. W. Henry Turlington and wife, Lydia of Brentwood, TN; Nine Grandchildren and spouses Fred Denning and wife, Carol, Michael Denning and wife, Tammy, Stephen Denning, Bill Stewart and wife, Dianna, Bob Stewart, Rebecca Tulloch, Sarah Tulloch, Graham Turlington, and Hannah Turlington; Six Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Alease T. Barbee of Winston-Salem, Bobbie T. Adams of Cary, Joyce T. Ogburn of Dunn, Susie T. Mewborn of Dunn; several nieces and nephew.
The family will receive friends Sunday 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats and other times at the home.
