Herbert I. Bundy, III, born on March 29, 1955, in Illinois, left this world on December 29, 2024, at UNC Johnston Healthcare in Smithfield.
A proud veteran, Herb served in the Navy, an experience that further shaped his character and instilled in him a strong sense of duty and loyalty. While serving in the Navy in January 1980, his life took a transformative turn as he met the love of his life, his wife, Gloria and they were married on January 30, 1981. He continued his career working in the Naval shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a man whose life was characterized by quiet strength and generosity, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. He retired from the EVS department at Johnston Health in Smithfield. In his spare time, he enjoyed hobbies that brought him joy, such as fishing, programming computers, and working on his trucks.
He is survived by his step-son Greg Baker and wife Darlene. His legacy continues through his grandson (who is more like a son), Brad Baker and wife Dana, and granddaughter, Kayla Boykin and husband Tyler, as well as his great-grandchildren Brayden Baker and Sawyer Baker. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Alice Turnage.
He was predeceased in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Baker-Bundy, as well as his step-son Craig Baker. Herb was also the son of Herbert I. Bundy, Jr and Betty May Auvil Bundy.
Family has chosen to have private services to honor his memory. Herb’s life was a testament to the values of kindness and dedication, and he will be profoundly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
