Hubert Barefoot

Benson, NC: Mr. Hubert Alton Barefoot, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn surrounded by his son and daughter.  Graveside Funeral Services will be 2:30PM Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Roselawn Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Bassett.     Born in Johnston County on September 16, 1921, he was the son of the late Handy B. and Rena Beasley Barefoot.  His wife of 63 years, the late Colene Williams Barefoot, age 84, passed away on June 15, 2013. Hubert lived a full and active life.  He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army.  For the rest of his life, he farmed and worked at Burlington Industries.  Upon retirement, he continued to work part time, sharing vegetables from his garden and enjoying the outdoors.  He was a beloved member of Holly Grove Advent Christian Church.  Hubert loved being with people and helping them when he could.  His ready smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.     Hubert loved his family and they loved him.  He is survived by his son, Gary Alton Barefoot (wife, Becky Barefoot); daughter, Joy Barefoot (husband, Bill Herndon); grandson, Christopher Barefoot (wife, Laney Barefoot); great grandson, Wyatt Barefoot; and brothers, Ovalee Barefoot and Shirley Barefoot.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregg Barefoot; his brothers, Garland Barefoot, Hobert Barefoot, Sherrill Barefoot; and sisters, Gertrude Parker and Christine Barefoot.     The family expresses its gratitude to the staff and nurses at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital for their kindness and tender care of our father and to Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their care.  We also want to thank the many friends who have expressed love, support, and care for our father during his illness.     Flowers are welcomed; however memorials may be made to Holly Grove Advent Christian Church, 2050 Holly Grove Road, Benson, NC  27504.
