Benson, NC: Mr. Jack Harrell Hester, Sr., age 85, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 27 at 2:00 pm in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton. Officiating will be Dr. Rev. Lawrence Powers.
Mr. Hester was born on June 12, 1936 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late Marvin J. and Nellie Harrell Hester. He was also predeceased by his younger brother, Bill.
Jack served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany in the 1960s and completed 36 years of military service as CW3 in the 29th Division of the Virginia Army National Guard, Headquarters Battery in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Surviving includes his loving wife of 46 years, Penny and two children, Kimberly Hester Spry and husband Charles and Jack H. Hester, Jr.; younger brothers, Marvin Hester and wife Linda, Charles Hester and wife Linda; sisters-in-law, Maria "Bunnie" Hester (Bill), Vickie Overbey and Diann Baker; grandsons, Charles, Heath, Brandon and Tyler along with several nieces and nephews and his beloved German Shepherd, Baron.
Jack was blessed with many lifelong friends and never met a stranger. He was active in the community having served in the Virginia Ruritan Club as well as the Lions Club in North Carolina. Jack was an active member of Benson Baptist Church and loved his fellow members as his family.
