Jackie Wood Matthews

Benson, NC: Mrs. Shirley Jacquelyne “Jackie” Wood Matthews, age 85, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11:00AM-Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC.  Rev. Glenn McCullen will officiate.

Mrs. Matthews was born on October 1, 1937 in Johnston County, NC, to the late Elijah Golden “Buddy” and Lomie Johnson Wood.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Talbert Green “T.G.” Matthews, Jr., son, Rollins Michael Matthews, and a sister, Elgie “Sister” Wood Rogers.  Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker, and attended Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Neal Matthews and Fiancé, Tracie Smith Rhodes of Benson, NC; grandson, Austin Neal Matthews of Benson, NC; brother, Larry Golden Wood of Winston Salem, NC; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service on Tuesday, and other times at the home 2220 Zack’s Mill Road, Angier, NC 27501.
