James Allen

September 23, 1922 — February 16, 2017

Dunn, NC: Mr. James L. "Jim" Allen, age 94 of 606 Davis Ave died Thursday at Universal Healthcare in Lillington.  Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson.  Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Johnson.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson with Military Honors.                 Mr. Allen was born on September 23, 1922 in Johnston County to the late J. Loyd and Ora Eason Allen.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Carl E. Allen, William Allen, Roy Lee Allen, and Sanford T. Allen; sisters, Mable Blackburn and Mildred Olive Graves.                Jim served 37 months in the Armed Forces in the Southwest Pacific from 1942-1945 during World War II.  His working career as an electrical engineering technician was with the Department of Defense at Fort Belvoir, VA.  He retired in 1978 and returned to North Carolina where he enjoyed many happy years.  Jim was a Master Mason in the Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22, Alexandria, VA.  He was an active member of Westfield Baptist Church, Dunn, NC and also a member of American Legion Dunn Post.                Surviving include wife of 70 years, Jewel McLamb Allen; son, James "Ken" Allen of Cary; grandchildren, Brian M. Allen of Roseboro and Will J. Allen of Wilmington; great-grandchildren, Kailey  Ann Allen and Jacob Thomas Allen; several nieces and nephews.                Family will receive friends from 12:30 PM-1:45 PM prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.                Memorials may be made to Westfield Baptist Church, 700 North Ashe Avenue, Dunn, NC 28334 or American Cancer Society, 1-800-227-2345, Option 2 for more information.
