James B. Coats, Jr.

Willow Spring, NC: Mr. James Bythan Coats, Jr., age 84 of Sanders Road passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 at The Gardens of Trent in New Bern, NC. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Friday, May 2, 2025 in the Coats Family Cemetery on Sanders Road in Willow Spring. Officiating will be Rev. Jonathan Hill. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Mr. Coats was born on January 18, 1941 in Johnston County, NC to the late James Bythan Coats, Sr. and Nellie Louise Stephenson Coats. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gale Williams Coats; and a sister, Billie Jean Williams. Mr. Coats owned and operated J. B. Coats Construction Company for many years. He was a hard worker all of his life, enjoyed being outside, and loved to listen to bluegrass music.

Surviving are his sister, Brenda Blackmon and husband, James of Clinton; brother, J. L. Coats and wife, Barbara of Willow Spring; and a brother-in-law, Pete Williams of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.
