James Jernigan

August 27, 1926 — October 29, 2013

Benson, NC:  Mr. James Carl Jernigan, age 87, of 567 Tarheel Road died Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Graveside funeral services will be 3:00PM Friday, November 1, 2013, at Roselawn Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Sonny Morgan and Dr. Preston Heath.      Mr. Jernigan was born August 27, 1926 in Johnston County to the late Jasper Newton and Bessie Jackson Jernigan. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Wade Jernigan, Talton Jernigan, and David Jernigan; and sisters, Vada Vick, Christine Bryant, and Ethelene Lee.  Mr. Jernigan served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clinton.  He was also a member of American Legion Banner Post 109.  Mr. Jernigan was a farmer, meat cutter for Piggly Wiggly, and was a member of Stoney Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.       Surviving are wife, Margaret J. Adams Jernigan; daughters & son-in-law, Diana & Sonny Morgan and Michelle Ann Jernigan, all of Meadow; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; stepchildren, Brenda & Charles Hardy of Dunn and Billy & Linda Herring of Buies Creek; 6 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; sisters, Merlene Byrd of Raleigh and Edna Breedlove of FL; and brother, Junior Jernigan of Newton Grove.      Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 1:30PM to 2:30PM Friday prior to the service.      Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Stoney Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 12481 Harnett-Dunn Hwy, Dunn, NC  28334.
