J. Edward Adams

October 30, 1927 — January 20, 2012

Benson – Rev. Joseph Edward Adams, age 84, of 1200 Adams Road died Friday, January 20, 2012, at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral service will be 2:00PM Monday, January 23, 2012, at Stone’s Creek Advent Christian Church.  Dr. Larry Withrow and Rev. Tom McMahon will officiate.  Burial will follow in Banner Chapel Church Cemetery.  Rev. Adams was born in Johnston County on October 30, 1927 to the late John Quincy and Mancy Lee Adams. He was also preceded in death by Brothers, Woodrow Adams and Pinkney Adams.  He served in the U. S. Air Force for three years. Rev. Adams was a retired Advent Christian Church minister.  During his ministry, he served Advent Christian Churches in Erwin, Garner, Potters Hill, Hollandale, and Smithfield, all in North Carolina.  He also preached in Georgia at Bethlehem Advent Christian Church and in South Carolina at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church and Savannah Advent Christian Church.  Rev. Adams was currently a member of Stone’s Creek Advent Christian Church. Surviving include wife, Frances Ryals Adams; Children, Connie Adams and husband, Alan Hengle, of Four Oaks, James Edward Adams, Sr., and wife, Jean, of Snow Hill, and Brian Adams of Charleston, SC; Sister, Annie Parsons of Dunn; and Brother, John D. Adams of Garner; 2 Grandchildren; and 2 Great Grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Sunday, January 22, 2012. Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Stone’s Creek Advent Christian Church Building Fund, c/o Phyllis Barefoot, 64 Wood’s Crossroads Road, Benson, NC  27504.
