Jerome Langdon, age 72, passed away Tuesday, August 30, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Benson, NC. A Celebration of life service will be held 4:00 PM-Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Private Family Entombment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen and Dr. Billy Cashwell.
Jerome was born in Harnett County on November 5, 1943 to the late Norwood and Ruby Parrish Langdon. He graduated from Benson High School and has been a well known Johnston County farmer for 57 years. He spent his life in the McGee's Crossroads community and became a good neighbor and loyal friend to those who lived around him. Farming was the passion of his life. He took great pleasure in planting, seeing crops grow and mature through harvesting. For him it was similar to seeing an act of God in every field. He valued hard work and all those who did it. He became a familiar sight to many as he rode from field to field in his red pickup truck, window down and his left arm outside. He enjoyed being with other farmers sharing the joys and frustrations of the work. The company of others, a good meal, stimulating conversation, and laughter with family members rounded out his life away from work. Jerome was a member of Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Johnson Langdon, a step-son, Marc Barbour and wife, Kimberly, two step-grandchildren, Duncan and Connor Barbour, a sister, Linda Langdon Wheeler and husband, Billy Ray; niece, Melissa R. Wheeler; nephew, David R. Wheeler and wife, Dana and great-nephew, Landon P. Wheeler.
The family will receive friends 2:30 PM-3:45 PM Thursday prior to the service at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
