Jerry Benson

Benson:  Mr. Jerry Alonzo Benson, age 68, of 6981 Elevation Road died Tuesday at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehab Center in Benson.  Funeral services will be 11:00  AM Thursday at Benson Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be  Dr. Billy Cashwell and Rev. Scott Johnson. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery with National Guard Honors.                Mr. Benson was born January 4, 1948 in Johnston County to the late Shirley Willis and Adelma Gaglaridi Benson.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Woodall Benson. Jerry was a 1966 graduate of Benson High School and furthered his education at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Mr. Benson retired as Master Sergeant from the US Army National Guard with 36 years of service.     He was a member of Benson Grove Baptist Church and also served on the Benson State Annual Singing Convention Board.                Surviving include daughter and son-in-law, Karen B. and Jamie Evans of Benson; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and LeShanon Benson of Garner; grandchildren, Cody Evans, Caitlen Evans, Madison Benson and Landon Benson; sister, Rebecca Blackmon of Four Oaks; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet and Wayne Johnson of Cary; many nieces and nephews.                The family will receive friends 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday in the sanctuary of Benson Grove Baptist Church, 6966 NC Hwy 50 N. Benson, NC 27504.             The family wishes to thank the staff of Liberty Commons of Johnston County in Benson for their loving care given to Mr. Benson.             Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to The ALS Association Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter, 4 N. Blount St., Suite 200, Raleigh, NC  27601.
