Goldsboro, NC: Mr. Jerry Mac Grimes, age 68, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose and Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens in Dunn. Officiating will be Rev. Walter Sloan. The family requests Jerry’s biker brothers and sisters join the funeral procession for Jerry’s last ride.
Jerry was born in Harnett County on February 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Andy Melvin Grimes and Veda Tart Grimes of Coats. Jerry worked 28 years with the state of North Carolina, first as an officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, and later in health care at Cherry Hospital. An avid biker he finished his career in sales at Fun Products Motorcycle Mall of Goldsboro, with 17 years of service. An active member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church of Goldsboro, Jerry was a member of the Servants for Christ Sunday School class, where his favorite mission work was driving a church bus to transport church goers to and from church services. He was proceeded in death by brother Jackie Wayne Grimes of Benson and nephew Bennie Joe Grimes, Jr. of Coats.
He is survived by wife, Judy Blackman Grimes of Goldsboro; a son, Troy Grimes of Raleigh, and a daughter Tracy Grimes-Lane of Mt. Olive; two grandsons, Joseph Tommy Thompson and Dalton Drake Thompson of Mt. Olive, a step-grandson Kaleb M. Lane of Pikeville and son-in-law Anthony Lane, of Mt. Olive. He is also survived by two brothers, Bennie Joe Grimes and wife Joan of Coats and Randy Michael Grimes and wife Tonya of Fuquay-Varina; a sister Kathy Grimes Peede and husband Michael of Coats; and a sister in Christ, Judy Johnson of Dunn. Jerry was the proud uncle of one niece and seven nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
Family will receive friends at the home, 136 Country Run Lane of Goldsboro and visitation will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 1200 W. Grantham Street, Goldsboro; and again Wednesday October 1, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Rose and Graham Funeral Home, 301 W. Main Street, Benson.
