Angier, NC: Mr. Jerry Dean Surles, age 83, of Old Fairground Road passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Piney Grove Chapel Church in Angier. Officiating will be Rev. Timmy Blair. Burial will follow in Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Angier with Military Honors.
Mr. Surles was born on May 7, 1937 in Johnston County to the late John Gardner and Beatrice Ennis Surles. He retired from Winn Dixie Grocery Store and was a member of Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church. He served in the US Army and National Guard.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Shirley Matthews Surles; daughters, Deana S. Warren and husband, Mike of Angier, Dawn S. Evans and husband, Bobby of Angier; grandchildren, Austin and Alexa Byrd; sister, Dolores Priest and husband, Johnny of Pinehurst, Barbara Blackburn of Angier; nieces and nephews.
Mr. Surles will lay in state at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church from 12:30PM to 2:45PM and the family will be present from 1:30PM to 2:30PM prior to the service and other times at the home.
In accordance with NC-COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W's: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. If you are attending the service on Wednesday a mask is required inside the church.
