Jo Linda Moore Langston

Mrs. Jo Linda Moore Langston, age 86, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at UNC Johnston Healthcare in Smithfield, NC. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Barbour’s Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery outside Four Oaks, NC.

Mrs. Jo Linda Moore Langston was born on December 11, 1935 in Johnston County, NC to the late Ottis S. and Myrtle Stephenson Moore. Jo Linda graduated from Four Oaks High School and Hardbarger Business College, and thereafter began her working career. She moved to the position of secretary to the Warden at Central Prison and remained there until she resigned to become a stay-at-home wife and mom to love and care for her husband and their three children. She later returned to work with the Johnston County School System as a substitute teacher and remained there for 42 years. There always remained a special place in her heart for every child she dealt with during those years. Jo Linda was a life-long member of Barbour’s Chapel Advent Christian Church where she taught Sunday School and served as a deaconess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Langston, Sr., and her brothers, Billy Moore and Ottis S. Moore, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Joseph H. Langston, Jr., of Raleigh; Scott Langston and wife, Diana of Rocky Mount; and Laura L. Jackson and husband, Jeff of Jamestown; grandchildren, Dr. Sara E. Carlisle and husband, Dr. Philip Carlisle, Mary Katherine Smith and husband, Dr. Mason Smith, Morgan Poston and husband, Michael, and Taylor Jackson; great-grandchildren, Camden Scott Carlisle and Greyson Daniel Carlisle; nieces, Karen Whitfield and husband, Rick, and Melissa Mize; sister-in-law, Katherine L. Moore.

In accordance with the NC COVID 19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines. Masks are required for all services.
