Joe David Massey

Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Joe David Massey, age 77, entered into the arms of Jesus, on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at UNC Rex Health Care in Raleigh surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held 4:00PM, Sunday, October 3, 2021 outdoors at Pauline Baptist Church, 501 Strickland's Crossroads Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524. Officiating will be Dr. Robert Cooke.

Mr. Massey was born on December 7, 1943 in Johnston County to the late David Emmitt and Flossie Adams Massey. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby D. Massey. Mr. Massey was a farmer of various crops, and lived and enjoyed his life on the family farm. One of his greatest loves was his garden, where he shared his vegetables with his family and friends. He was also a retired volunteer fireman with 30 years of service with the Strickland’s Crossroads Fire Department, where he served as their second chief. He was a lifetime member of Pauline Baptist Church outside Four Oaks, where he served in many capacities.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Guy Massey, twin daughters, Annette Massey Adams and husband, Randy, and Jeanette Massey McNeill and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Lauren Adams Harmon and husband, Kyle, Matthew Boone McNeill, Joseph Guy McNeill and Luke David Adams and fiancée’ Courtney Garris; great-grandson, Elijah Ryan “Eli” Harmon; many other special family members.

There will be an open-door visitation from 1:00PM-5:00PM, Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC. The family will not be present during this time.

On Sunday, October 3, 2021, Mr. Massey will lie in state from 2:00PM-3:30PM, prior to the outdoor service in the sanctuary of Pauline Baptist Church outside Four Oaks, NC.

In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required, but are kindly recommended for all services.
