Joe Surles

Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Joe Lynwood Surles, age 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Monday, October 14, 2019 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Four Oaks. Rev. Sylvester B. Colvin of St. Mark A.M.E. Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens, Smithfield with Full Military Honors.                Mr. Surles was born on August 9, 1942 in Johnston County to the late Jesse and Cinderella Williams Surles. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Morris Surles.  Mr. Surles retired from the US Army and also as a  horticulturist with the Georgia Prison System.                        Survivors include his children, Joe Surles, Jr., Stacy Surles, Derek Surles, Jovetta Whitfield and Jonathan Surles; many grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Anderson and Tillie Godwin; many loving nieces and a nephew.             A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM- 10:45 AM on Monday prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks.             Flowers are welcomed; however memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
