Coats, NC: Mr. Joey Travis Johnson, age 48, loving husband, father, and brother, of 1383 Johnson Road died Saturday at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Thursday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jason Hammersley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Joey was born in Johnston County on February 14, 1968 to the late Jonah C. and Charlotte Barbour Johnson and was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Carol Johnson. He was a man who loved to cultivate and farm the land that had been in his family for many generations. Joey received the Coats Area Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year Award in 1998. He and his wife owned and operated the Dragonfly Florist in Coats and Pilgrim's Pride Poultry House. Joey had a talent for growing poinsettias that were distributed to area churches. He was a member and an elder at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He was blessed to be able to see things for what they could be rather than what they were.
Surviving are wife, Terry Baker Johnson; daughter & son-in-law, Allison & Glenn Frye of Fuquay Varina; and sister, Cathy Johnson of Coats.
The family will receive friends at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church from 9:30AM to 10:30AM Thursday prior to the service.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
