Smithfield, NC: Mr. John Roland Vinson age 91 of Smithfield, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013 at Smithfield Manor. Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Rev. Lewis Godwin. Burial will follow in the Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens.
Mr. Vinson was born November 15, 1921 in Johnston County to the late John Calvin and Mary Lena Wallace Vinson. Mr. Vinson was a painter for the Johnston County School System and member of Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Vinson was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Kinley & Chlore Wallace. After surviving scarlet fever as an infant, Mr. Vinson completely lost his hearing. However this did not affect his communication with family, friends or anyone he came in contact with. He was an avid gardener and loved visiting with other people.
Surviving are wife of 57 years, Daisy Dean Smith Vinson; daughters & sons-in-law, Donna Vinson & J.B. Warren of Clayton. Delia Vinson & Tim Wiggins of Elm City, Debra Vinson & Steve Burgess of Concord; son & daughter-in-law, John Calvin & Shelia Vinson of Smithfield; Two sisters, Hilda Chapell of Durham, Patsy Coppage of South Carolina,; Two Grandchildren, Kristi Ellis and Michael Ellis and One Great-Grandson Joseph Landon Manis.
The family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home of John Calvin & Shelia Vinson 3349 Packing Plant Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
