John Walker

Benson, NC:  Mr. John William Walker, age 90, died Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.  A memorial service will be 1:00PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Benson United Methodist Church.  Rev. Ron Patten will officiate. Mr. Walker was born December 24, 1922 in Wayne County to the late John David and Mae Rogers Walker.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Walker.  Mr. Walker served in the U. S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theater.  He was the first principal of South Johnston High School and retired in 1984.  Mr. Walker was a member of Benson United Methodist Church. Surviving include his Wife of 66 years, Rosalyn Mizelle Walker; Daughters, Cheryl C. Walker and fiancé, Jeffrey Huberman, of Charlotte and Cynthia W. Roberts and husband, Perry, of Houston, TX; Sister, Teresa Limerick of Texas; and Brother, Lavern Walker of Goldsboro. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Benson Area Medical Center, 3333 NC Hwy 242, Benson, NC  27504, Benson United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 72, Benson, NC  27504, or to one’s favorite charity. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Eugene Maynard and his staff for their extraordinary care and advice during their time of need.
