Angier, NC: Mr. Johnnie Alvin Lorbacher, age 74, died Thursday at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Saturday at Coats Community Church in Coats. Officiating will be Dr. Jim Cochran and Rev. Jim Jones. Burial will follow at 3:00PM at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church 269 Mann's Chapel Rd. Pittsboro, NC 27312.
Mr. Lorbacher was born March 23, 1940 in Chatham County to the late Ervin and Zelma Anderson Lorbacher. He graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1958 and after graduating continued his education by attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University in Durham. Mr. Lorbacher retired after 22 1/2 years of service with the Chatham County Sherriff's Department, where he was the first chaplain to place a cross on his uniform. He was also lay speaker and a chaplain until his death.
Surviving include his wife, Edna Powell-Lorbacher of Angier; Children and Spouses, Johnnie Alvin Lorbacher, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Collinsville, Illinois, Cindy D. Buckner and husband, Danny of Thomasville, David and Marcie Lorbacher of New Hill, NC, Kathy Pope and husband, Brian of Coats; Nine Grandchildren; Five Great-Grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the church 10:00AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service and other times at the home.
