Johnny Louvert "J.L." Barefoot

Dunn, NC: Mr. Johnny Louvert “J. L.” Barefoot, age 91 of Lee-Johnson Road passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Dunn. Officiating will be Revs. C. H. Lee and Jerry Hicks. Burial will follow in the Unity Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Newton Grove.

Mr. Barefoot was born on December 4, 1933 in Johnston County, NC to the late Clio Louvert and Easter Ioda Barefoot. He was preceded in death by son, Johnny Mark Barefoot; a great-grandson, Chase Mark Barefoot; and sisters, Ella Mae Logan, Piddie Hoover James, and Shae Albritton Darden. Mr. Barefoot retired from South River Electric after 42 years of service. After his retirement, he continued his farming along beside all of his family. Mr. Barefoot and his wife also loved to travel and visited every state except for two. He loved spending time with his family and never missed an opportunity to support all of his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments. Mr. Barefoot was an active member in both Unity Presbyterian Church and Calvary Baptist Church serving both churches in many different capacities. He especially enjoyed driving for the Calvary Baptist Church Senior Citizen’s bus on their outings. Mr. Barefoot was an avid outdoorsman, loved raising beagles, and enjoyed listening to music and dancing. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend and loved all his family deeply.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Mary R. Barefoot; children, Joan Daniels and husband, Roy of Elizabeth City, Jeanne Kitchin and husband, Aubrey of Duck, Alan Barefoot and wife, Teresa of Dunn, Tim Barefoot and wife, Tiffany of Dunn; grandchildren, Roy Daniels and wife, Morgan, Kane Daniels, Aaron Barefoot, Ross Barefoot and wife, Brittany, Megan Stewart and husband, Alan, Aubrey Kitchin and fiancé, Jillian Fearing, Samuel Kitchin, Charlie Kitchin, Kaytlin Strickland and husband, Naylor, Mariah Best and husband, Thelton, Ethan Barefoot and wife, Briana, Tori Dupree and husband, Will, Tala Hayes and husband, Austin, Timi Barefoot, and his faithful beagle, Buddy; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, and other times at the home.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 283 NC 55 Hwy Dunn, NC 28334 or Unity Presbyterian Church, 11551 NC Hwy 50 South, Newton Grove, NC 28366.
