Joseph "J.D." Delton Barefoot

Benson, NC:  Mr. Joseph Delton “J.D.” Barefoot, age 86, of N. Augusta Avenue passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held-2:00 PM Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. John Foister. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson. 

Mr. Barefoot was born on December 13, 1937 in Johnston County to the late John Lloyd and Viola Thornton Barefoot. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Anne Lee Barefoot; brother, Rayvon Barefoot; and sister, Jean B. West. J.D. leaves behind a legacy of service! He graduated from Meadow High School in 1956 and went on to serve in the National Guard. He was active in the Benson Kiwanis Club for many years. He was very active in Holly Grove Advent Christian Church where he was a lifelong member, during his time he was President of the Eastern Conference for many years, served on the Deacon Board, active in the Men’s Fellowship, and he and his wife started the Youth Fellowship Program.  He will be remembered as a loving brother, uncle, and friend. 

Surviving includes his siblings, Phoebe Watson of Knightdale, Patsy Lee of Benson, Jackie Johnson of Kernersville, and Kenneth Barefoot of Four Oaks; and several nieces and nephews. 

          The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson. 

          Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made in his memory to Holly Grove Church at 2050 Holly Grove Rd. Benson, NC 27504.
