Benson, NC: Josiah Daniel Horkavy, age 14, passed away Friday at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with rhabdomyosarcoma. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Catawba Springs Christian Church, 6801 Ten-Ten Rd., Apex, NC 27539. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Pastors, Chuck Woodruff, Jonas Harley and Ryan Horkavy.
Josiah was born July 14, 2000 in Wake County to Dr. Carl D. and Katie Lanzoni Horkavy of Benson. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Robert and Frances Lanzoni and a paternal grandfather John Horkavy. Josiah trusted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior at the age of 5 and became an active member of Catawba Springs Christian Church where he participated in the youth program. When diagnosed with cancer he claimed God's promise in Hebrews 13: 5-6, "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." Josiah actively lived out his faith.
Surviving in addition to his parents are brothers and sister-in-law, Ryan and Jennifer Horkavy of Buckeye, AZ and Tyler Horkavy of Benson; paternal grandmother, Jennie Horkavy of Connecticut; niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Benjamin Horkavy of Buckeye, AZ.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, and on Wednesday from 2:00 to 2:45 P.M. prior to the service at Catawba Springs Christian Church in Apex.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials "in memory of Josiah Daniel Horkavy" to The Wilds Christian Camp 1000 Wilds Ridge Road, Brevard, NC 28712.
