Leland "L. A." Sutton

Benson, NC: Mr. Leland A. “L.A.” Sutton, age 83, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC.  A Memorial Service will be 11:00AM Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Elevation United Methodist Church.  Dr. Reginald Ponder & Rev. Berry Barbour will officiate. Mr. Sutton was born December 10, 1928 in Sampson County to the late Albert Sydney and Iola Matthews Sutton.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Grey Godwin.  Mr. Sutton was a retired warehouse manager with Godwin Building Supply and Interstate Distributors. He served in the U. S. Air Force, was a member of the Eastern Star, a mason and a member of Banner Post 109 American Legion.  Mr. Sutton was also a member of Elevation United Methodist Church.    Surviving include; Special Friend, Gloria Hill of Benson; Daughter and Son-in-law, Lynn S. and Tommy Coats of Coats; Son and Daughter-in-law; Al and Joy Sutton of Garner; Three Grandchildren, Christopher Coats, Shane Banks and Devon Banks; Sister, Pauline Jinnette of Goldsboro; and several Nieces and Nephews. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Lynn S. & Tommy Coats 1988 Old Stage Road North, Coats, NC 27521. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elevation United Methodist Church, 5101 Elevation Road, Benson, NC  27504.
