Leonard "Happy" Wood, Sr.

Benson: Mr. Leonard “Happy” Alton Wood, Sr., age 82, of 4834 NC Hwy 50 South died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Graveside Funeral Service will be 11:00AM Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Devotional Gardens in Dunn.   Officiating will be Rev. Hubert Morgan. Mr. Wood was born in Johnston County on December 30, 1929 to the late Ben and Lattie McLamb Wood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Jernigan Wood; daughters, Jeannie Williamson and Kathy Jean Wood; brothers, Herbert Talton Wood, William Dalton Wood, Joseph Marvin Wood, and James Felton Wood; and sisters, Myrtie Wood Strickland, Mary Lean Wood Lee, and Gertrude Wood Beasley.  He was a produce farmer and served in the U. S. Navy.   Mr. Wood also served with the Raleigh Fire Department for 12 years. Surviving include daughters & son-in-law, Dinah Carol & Mike Wehbie of Charlotte and Darlene Smith of Benson; sons & daughters-in-law, Leonard Alton & Rhonda W. Wood, Jr. of Willow Spring and Benjamin Mark & Sherrill Wood of Benson; 14 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; and sisters, Gertie Lewis of Knightdale, Doris Beasley of Fayetteville, Ernestine Blackman of Coats, Margine Dixon of Garner, Katherine Wood of Raleigh, and Elizabeth Johnson of Goldsboro. Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 9:30AM to 10:30AM Wednesday, September 5, 2012, prior to the graveside service and other times at the home of Jeremy & Shelly Norris, 4870 NC 50 South, Benson, NC.
