McGee's Crossroads, NC: Mrs. Lettie Adams Benson Johnson, age 95, died Monday, December 9, 2019 at her home. Funeral Service will be 3:30 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Johnson Memorial Church, Angier, NC. Officiating will be Revs. Chris Searles and Brandon Teachey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Johnston County, was born on September 27, 1924, to the late Ethan and Ophelia Adams. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Benson and Dwight Johnson; step-son, James Dwight Johnson; an infant granddaughter; three brothers; and three sisters. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Johnson Memorial Church since 1960, and a charter member of the Lillie Johnson Ladies Auxiliary where she served in many positions. After 32 years of marriage and the death of her husband, Gerald, she worked at the department of Motor Vehicles where she retired with 15 years of service. During this time, she married Dwight Johnson and they had 20 years together.
Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Barbour and husband, Gradford; sons, Gerald Lavon Benson and wife, Dean all of McGee's Crossroads; Randy Benson and wife, Brenda of Benson; step-daughter, Gwen Finlayson of Pittsboro; seven grandchildren, Ryan Barbour, Natalie Gurley and husband, Richard; Adam Barbour and wife, Harmony; Angela Massengill and husband, Brian; Dana Dillon and husband, Jeff; Chadwick Benson and wife, Richelle; David Earnshaw and wife, Stephanie; seventeen great-grandchildren, Raegan Benson, Maria Benson, Addy Benson, Ethan Benson, Cameron Massengill, Lydia Gurley, Ella Gurley, Grant Dillon, Jake Dillon, Maddie Barbour, Tempie Barbour, Jude Barbour, Asher Barbour, Lettie Barbour, Sammy Earnshaw, Suzanne Earnshaw, Julia Earnshaw; and many extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2019 prior to the service at Johnson Memorial Church.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the Johnson Memorial Church Building Fund, 8280 NC HWY 50 N, Angier, NC 27501.
