Mrs. Lillie Lenora Crocker Stanley, age 91, passed away on May 31, 2014 at Wake Medical Center in Cary. A long-time resident of Four Oaks, she lived for the past 10 years at Windsor Point Retirement Community in Fuquay-Varina. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday at Four Oaks Baptist Church. Reverend John Norman will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Four Oaks Cemetery.
Mrs. Stanley was born August 14, 1922 in Pine Level, the oldest daughter of John Henry and Bessie Creech Crocker. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 51 years, Haywood Stanley of Four Oaks. Mrs. Stanley graduated from Pine Level High School. After graduation, she served in U.S. Navy WAVES during WWII. She married following the war and lived in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Carolina, and overseas in Japan and Germany as a military wife.
She is survived by a son, Russell and his wife, Nancy, of Dallas, TX, a son, Woody and his wife, Sezin, of Bethesda, MD, a grandson, John and his wife Jennifer and two great-grandchildren of Dallas, TX, and a grandson, William of Bethesda, MD.
When she moved to Four Oaks, Mrs. Stanley worked at Sylvania in Smithfield for a number of years. She was active in the American Legion Auxilary in Four Oaks, once serving as District President. Mrs. Stanley was honored to be included in the Women in Military Service to America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. She also volunteered for a number of years at Johnston County Memorial Hospital and was recognized in 1993 with a Governor's Award for Voluntary Service. Mrs. Stanley was recognized in 1994 as Four Oaks Citizen of the Year.
She was a member of Four Oaks Baptist Church. During her time in Fuquay-Varina, she attended Wake Chapel Christian Church.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the committal service.
