Margaret Amos Hoffman

June 5, 1933 — August 12, 2019

Margaret Marie Hoffman June 5, 1933-August 12, 2019 Margaret Marie Amos Hoffman was born on June 5, 1933 in a little country farmhouse to Isom and Bertha Amos in Ridge Woods County, Arkansas. Marie had six brothers… Woodrow, Willard, David, Isom Jr. (Speck) Richard, Harry and one sister, Novlene who all proceeded her in death. Marie grew up with parents who were sharecroppers from the time she was born until she left home. It was among Marie’s family where she learned the valve of hard work at a very young age. Our mother learned to respect people while she learned life skills that she used her entire life. On May 18th, 1950 our mother was married to Jack L. Hoffman. The day after she was married, she and our father embarked on an adventure to the state of Michigan where they raised four children. Our mother trusted Christ as her Savior and was baptized when she was twenty-five years old.  Over a span of many decades she took her children to church and lived an example of what it meant to be a follower of Christ. Marie taught Sunday School for many years, worked in Vacation Bible School, The Visitation Ministry, served as president on a Ladies Ministry Team and served anywhere she was needed. She was an excellent cook, homemaker and mother. Marie began her career with the Wayne/Westland Postal Service in 1965 where she started as a mail carrier and worked her way up to become a window clerk. By the time she retired in 1993, she had worked her way in the Postal System to being in charge of payroll and passports. From a sharecropper’s daughter on a farm in rural Arkansas, our mother became a high achiever at any task she was given. During our mother’s journey of life, she became a grandmother and great grandmother. Mom was never short on pictures or shy sharing them. Whenever someone commented on how many grands and greats she had, she would always smile and say…” It wasn’t me…I only had four.” Up until a little over a year ago, mom always remembered each birthday with a card and a five-dollar bill. Mom kept up with technology as she grew older. It was a common occurrence in her last years of life to have a Facebook account and even recently enjoyed face time with grands and greats who are living in China, Paris France and Thailand. Our mother leaves behind many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Many of these dear ones have faithfully kept up with mom over the years and inquired on her health right up until the day before she left this earth. Once our mother developed Dementia, she was never the same. There have been many lessons for all of us through our mothers’ long journey with Dementia… Be sure and tell your loved ones how much you love them while they can still understand what you’re saying. Be patient with them. Remember it’s not your loved one but the horrible disease that turns their world upside down. Finally, have a grateful heart for the Promise of Heaven. For when we see our mother again…she will be forever whole.                        Husband Jack L. Hoffman proceeded Marie in death on November 19,2005 A Visitation will be held 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, 301 W. Main Street, Benson, NC 27504.
