Panama City, Fl: Mr. Maurice Ammons Proctor, age 98, of Panama City, FL died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Covenant Hospice facility at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, FL.  Graveside funeral service will be 11:00AM Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.  Rev. Paul Burgess will officiate.       The youngest of 9 children – 6 boys and 3 girls, Maurice was born was July 16, 1915 in Conway, SC to the late Ansel Lawrence and Donella Ammons Proctor. Maurice was a retired Captain for Pan American World Airways and was a member of the US Army Air Corps. His aviation career began in 1941 with the Captain Civilian Pilot Training Program in Wilmington, NC at Pennington flying service for private pilot’s license. Secondary at Piedmont Aviation, Winston-Salem, NC in 1942, Maurice received advance training with AWTI (Advanced War Training Institute) conducted by the CAA Standardization Center at Houston, TX for instrument-link and multi-engine training. Maurice joined Pan American in December, 1942 at Dinner Key, Miami, FL, where for the first few months, flew navigation flights, training Air Force and Navy Aviation Cadets, using the Commodorreand Sikorsky S-40 Seaplanes equipped as flying classrooms. His flying career advanced on to the DC-3, 4, 6, 7, 8; Convair CV-240; Lockhead Constellation and Boeing 727 until he retired at the mandatory age of 60. Air travels with Pan Am covered most of the world- based in Brazil, Rio, New York, London and Miami. His late wife of 60 years, Miriam Kennedy Proctor, shared all this – with so many fond memories.       He is survived by his daughters; Barbara (Ted) Zangwill of Panama City, FL, and Valarie Proctor of Homestead, FL; his grandchildren, Maurice and Chris Jones; his great-grandchildren, Justin Jones and Miriam Jones and David Zangwill and his great-great-grandchild, David Lewis Zangwill.
