Maylene Warren Sanders

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Maylene Warren Sanders, age 97, of US HWY 701 South Four Oaks, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00AM at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery in Four Oaks. Rev. Walter Gaskins will officiate.

Mrs. Sanders was born on March 30, 1925 in Sampson County, NC to the late Lundy and Bettie Lewis Warren; step-mother, Eva Daughtry Warren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Junius Pearson Sanders, Jr; son, Junius Pearson “J.P.” “Jay” Sanders, III; brothers, J. Lee Warren, Lewis Warren; sister, Clarisse Gaddy.

Mrs. Sanders graduated from Salemburg High School and Flora MacDonald College. She married J. P. Sanders, Jr. in September of 1948. Mrs. Sanders worked as a Johnston County home demonstration agent and then taught home economics at Four Oaks High School for 11 years. She retired in 1985 as Director of the Child Nutrition Program of Johnston County Public Schools. Mrs. Sanders was a devoted member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Four Oaks where she was instrumental in the installation of the church steeple and fellowship hall. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1968, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and Johnston County Arts Council.  

Surviving include her daughter, Emily D. Sanders; nieces and nephews, June S. Young, Luanne LeBlanc, Lee Warren, Louie Warren, Jon Warren; special friends, Tom Hawkins, Emily Piner, Monica and Chris Massey.

There will be a closed casket visitation in the sanctuary of Antioch United Methodist Church from 10:00AM to 10:50AM where the public may sign the register book. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
